Consultation opens on first climate action plan for Yorkshire and the Humber

Yorkshire and Humber Climate Commission has launched an online public consultation for its draft climate action plan. The plan will be the first ever climate plan for the whole of the Yorkshire and Humber region.

The consultation brings together 50 headline actions across three priority areas – cross-cutting, climate readiness and resilience, and net zero – although the published plan will include more context and detail on the specific actions proposed.

The consultation will run until 24 September (midnight) and findings will inform the final version of the plan.

Opportunities to take part

Alongside the online consultation, stakeholder engagement sessions that will feed in to the plan are ongoing, with the Commission is running two weeks of daily lunchtime meetings. (Update: These are all now fully booked.)

Two evening public webinars will be held on 21st September (Climate Resilience) and 22nd September (Net Zero) from 18.00-20.00 that are open to all (pre-booking required).

Development of the plan

The first draft of the action plan is based on extensive collaborations between the main Commission (with 40 members from diverse organisations across the region), and by the Commission’s resilience and net zero working groups and standing panels (each with a broader membership base).

Once finalised, the Commission will work to promote the delivery of the action plan through all of its activities and engagements in the coming years. While the action plan has no formal status and the Commission operates as an advisory body rather than a delivery agency, the action plan will be submitted to the Yorkshire Leaders Board for formal consideration.
