A framework for action

In September 2024, we published our updated Climate Action Plan for Yorkshire and the Humber. The report provides a comprehensive plan for how the region can respond to the climate and nature crises, highlighting how whole-society, whole-place actions can enable us to rapidly reduce emissions and become adaptive to climate impacts whilst protecting and restoring nature, and ensuring climate action is fair and involves communities.
WATCH NOW
To tackle the climate and nature emergencies, we have developed actions that help us deliver on our four strategic aims: rapid emissions reduction, climate adaptation and resilience, restoring and protecting nature, and a just transition.

Rapid emissions reduction

We must cut our emissions rapidly, through investment in renewable energy and smart energy grids, upgrading homes and businesses, changing the way we travel, and restoring our natural carbon sinks.

Climate adaptation and resilience

We must adapt our homes and communities, our infrastructure, our farming and food systems, and our nature and biodiversity, to increase our resilience to present and future climate impacts.

Nature restoration

We must restore nature, by expanding protected areas and creating habitat corridors that enable species to thrive in rural and urban areas, and by promoting nature-based solutions.

A just transition

We must ensure that all actions are fair and just. We need to design a transition that creates good jobs, improves health and wellbeing, and provides opportunities for all of our communities.

Actions for our region

See what actions need to taken below. The 60 actions are organised under seven themes (A-G). Each action links to one or more of our four aims as indicated by the icons.
