Urgent climate advice given to Yorkshire and Humber leaders

A climate action plan for Yorkshire and the Humber finds that the region will have used up its share of the global carbon budget consistent with a “good chance” of staying within 1.5 °C of warming – the focus of COP26 currently taking place in Glasgow – within just six years if urgent action is not taken now.

Yorkshire Climate Summit welcomes audiences next week

While world leaders are meeting at the global climate conference COP26 in Glasgow, Yorkshire is putting the climate crisis at the top of the regional agenda with its own climate summit in Leeds next Wednesday (10 November). 

The Summit has been co-organised by The Yorkshire Post and the Yorkshire and Humber Climate Commission and features politicians, business leaders, academics and representatives from trades unions, the voluntary and community sector and youth activism. 

Virtual Citizen Discussion on Climate Change in the North launched

On 30 September, Leeds, Bradford and Hull local authorities launched a Virtual Citizen Discussion on Climate Change Policies in the North.

Residents are invited to share their ideas on how the city councils can best respond to climate change. The platform will be running throughout October and November 2021 for residents to continue contributing to discussions.

Commission hosts successful Green Jobs & Skills Summit

A Green Jobs and Skills Summit in collaboration with Aura Innovation and Marketing Humber was opened by Tracey Brabin, Mayor for West Yorkshire, who highlighted the opportunities for green jobs and skills in Yorkshire & Humber.  "Yorkshire & Humber was at the heart of the industrial revolution...now we have a chance to be the heart of the green industrial revolution," she said.

As the UK looks forward to hosting the world’s largest climate change conference, COP26, later this year in Glasgow, Yorkshire will be hosting a climate summit of its own.

Yorkshire and Humber Climate Commission is pleased to announce that it is partnering with the Yorkshire Post for the one-day event on 10 November. The hybrid event will now take place at Leeds' Royal Armouries* from 09.00-17.00.
