Regional collaboration for climate action

Tuesday, October 18, 2022 - 11:00 to 12:30
The Great Hall, University of Leeds (and online)

Significant climate ambitions have been set out over the past 12 months, on both a global and regional scale: at COP26, and in the Yorkshire & Humber Climate Action Plan. We are at a pivotal moment both in terms of climate action and ensuring a fair, prosperous, and sustainable future for West Yorkshire and its surrounds. As the Action Plan highlights, this calls for meaningful climate leadership from larger institutions in government and in the public and private sectors.

Ahead of COP27, join us to hear from four key regional voices as they discuss climate action and the importance of collaboration. Together, Mayor Tracy Brabin, Priestley Centre Director Professor Piers Forster, Vice Chancellor Simone Buitendijk, and the Yorkshire & Humber Climate Commission’s Professor Andy Gouldson will consider the current state of play, essential next steps, and how organisations across the region can work together to pursue a necessarily ambitious path towards a net-zero West Yorkshire.

The role of research and education institutions in the regional transition to net-zero will be an important focus of this discussion.

The event will be held in person at the University of Leeds and will also be livestreamed. It will be chaired by Professor Richard Beardsworth, Head of the School of Politics and International Studies

Light refreshments will be available before and after the event.
