On 14 October, Yorkshire and Humber Climate Commission Adaptation and Resilience Panel in partnership with The Green Estate CIC and Thrive by Design held an event to explore Adapting and Building Resilience for the Health and Well-being of all our communities. The event was designed as part of a wider process to work with health professionals to develop an outline strategy on how to address the climate and nature and health and wellbeing agendas in a joined up way.

Yorkshire and Humber Climate Commission has submitted a response to the Government’s Net Zero Strategy Review call for evidence. 

The review aims “to ensure [the Government is] delivering net zero in a way that is pro-business and pro-growth.” The Commission’s response sets out our position that achieving net zero is fundamental to the future of the economy (see downloads, below).

Measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero will have an impact across society, from the way homes are heated to industrial processes, transport systems and the skills needed by workers in the new green economy.  

2022 Yorkshire Post Climate Change Summit announced

Four jobs being recruited in Commission’s Secretariat team

The Commission is an independent advisory body working with combined and local authorities and with other public, private and third sector (i.e. NGOs and community-based) organisations across the region.

Help available for groups to communicate during flood incidents

Free help is available for groups to support effective communications during flood incidents. The offer is from Yorkshire iCASP (Integrated Catchment Solutions Programme) and consists of an interactive engagement exercise that can be held virtually or in person. The offer will run until the end of the summer. The exercise is ideal as a training tool and would be useful for anyone who has a role in communicating during flooding incidents. 

Nearly 800 circular economy initiatives in Yorkshire and Humber communities

An interactive map launched at the first Yorkshire Circular Economy Festival 2022 revealed that circular economy initiatives are widespread in Yorkshire and the Humber. Community-led initiatives, such as repair cafes, food banks and libraries of stuff, play a key role in climate action while establishing more equitable and inclusive communities.
