Where are we at in responding to the climate, nature and social crises?

In this session we explored the scale of the crises, explored some insight into Yorkshire and the Humber and discussed the importance of how we engage emotionally with these issues to enable us to act with purpose and resilience.

From quick wins to business model transformation

Reduce your workload and improve sustainability? It sounds too good to be true. But smoothing out your processes and getting things running more efficiently can deliver everything from a few quick carbon footprint reductions to a full sustainability transformation, not to mention reducing day-to-day admin.

We talked about the importance of planning and prioritisation, how to manage change and truly embed new ways of working, the impact of digital on your carbon footprint and much more.

Using your assets for good

This session was facilitated by the Citu team in the Climate Innovation District and explored how assets such as your physical spaces, your people and your ways of working can all become part of your positive impact.

New tools and how to use them

This session started with an introduction to Forum for the Future and the Climate and Health Coalition.

We then took a deeper dive into what applying a systemic lens to our work means:

  • Always think of context and consequences.
    • Everything being interconnected means actions have wider impact than we might think at first.
  • Practice anticipating different outcomes to help choose how to tackle an issue.
    • Makes our work more effective and long lasting.
  • Helps identifying who to collaborate with and who blockers for change are.
  • Accepting that most of the time we can’t go straight from A to B when we’re trying to solve an issue but that in reality most issues and the world we live in is far more complex and complicated – and sometimes messy!
  • We recognised that realising that we don’t have control over the systems we live in can feel overwhelming – but we’re not alone in this and got to know great people who are working towards a shared goal.

We talked about the Multi-Level Perspective framework that shows us how systems change happens and the different levers for change that we can focus and pull to help us understand where we can create the most impact.

Kate then gave us an overview of The Supply Chain Network and how it works.

We then did an exercise from the Climate and Health Toolkit and had a group discussion.
